Frida is more the interpreter and often sing the covers in her own way like a lot of jazz singers ,they even alter the tempo ,the silences and sometimes the song entirely is unrecognisable ! (en ton av tysnad or the sound of silence,or the JCS medley)
although she consider herself not as a jazz singer ,she testified in interviews that she interpreted only one jazz song ,(she can't deny that her singing is more close to Ella than judy )
I personally put her with my all time favourite male singer Nat king Cole ,
In her first period she mainly interprets evergreens from exclusively the American repertory and the Label EMI seems to provide the catalogue as well as the orchestrations ,the sound is out of date and you can easily make the difference with Benny's productions .
After their meeting ,Benny took on her carrier because he felt she was desperate ,only few songs got success ,and she began seriously to think about quitting music and began dressmaking lessons , though people at EMI were very confident about her potential knowing that sooner or later she'd become a star
But her carrier took off when Benny produced her first hits ,he made her discover the pop world and the Beatles for example that she used to snub like all jazz musicians of the time , when he finally wrote songs for her ,she climbed the charts , the culmination being Fernando which became one of the biggest hits of all time in Sweden.
after the hiatus during the first abba albums ,both her and Agnetha decide it was time to record solo ,and Frida ensam was the result ,on the whole the album is excellent ,the sound is perfect and like "elva kvinnor" from Agnetha ,it was better than the first Abba albums ,but for the choice of the songs that was just another story , "wouldn't be nice" and "wall street shuffle" ,both songs don't suit her voice , but the cover of Bowie 's "life on Mars" is better than the original and the end gives a sharp metallic voice incredible beautiful ,"syrtaki" in swedish sounds as if it was in Greek ! perfect.
The "Ratata" duo and "saltwater" are majestic ,the "Djupa andetag" album is by far her masterpiece it's her equivalent of "elva kvinnor "
Her two English albums are excellent but i have a weakness for "shine" ,i listen to it regularly and never get tired of it !
In Fire and Ice benatar song ,she is astonishing ,in words of love as well!
