This is the young girl from Jönköping who dreamed to become a star listening to her teen age idols and performing like them trying to compose songs ,she manage successfully to become not only an exceptional singer with astonishing skills but also a talented composer whose talent evolved faster that that of her colleague Benny Andersson
because when Benny was trying to make good songs for his band the hepstars , she already composed ,of course sentimental songs but perfect standards covered by other people .
A simple country girl who became sophisticated lady during the ABBA years
she isn't a Diva ,more close to Ella fitzgerald or karen carpenter
no big fashion , no extravagance .
her singing is a sort of acting she can be a different persona each time she take a song and make it her own when she cover a number
when it's her own material that's another story ,she can sing about her heartbreaks ,about her sister (lek med dina docker )
about writing a song (nya ord)
but her success in sweden deals with sentimental songs and her own ,she always had less success with covers and joyful numbers
her voice although soprano can manage to sing very low and cover a 'guy song' with credibility (compare "som ett echo" and "vagabondo")
but often compared to an angel , her voice is in fact very pure and is exactly the same as a teen boy before its breaking : the perfect soprano
only a few singer has this , and something exceptional is that she can climb very high notes without alteration (I wish tonight could last forever)
so she can sing very wide range of songs
with deep emotion she manage to "cry" while singing but never too sad because she always blame herself for the ending of a love affair in her songs what will carry the songs to more optimistic future but unlike Frida who is the "fighter" like Edith Piaf (tell me that it's over) ,Agnetha is giving up and wish him "a good life with the other one" though the story with herself is unforgettable !! The sad ballads are giving to her with Abba ,while Frida is given more mature heartbreak songs (one man ,one woman) the famous "divorce songs" are equally between them two.
Her repertoire is mainly pop
and her album 'elva kvinnor i ett huss' entirely her own writing (except SOS)
is a masterpiece ,describing eleven woman in a house with eleven personalities something easy for her to impersonate.
